Continuing on today’s reading of “Oliver Twist” on BBC Radio 7, the Big Toe Books show will have part 2 of the story at 8am GMT (3am EST) this Sunday. This is a fantastic listen as Burn does some outstanding character voices. If you missed part 1, you can use the “Listen Now” feature on the BBC Radio 7 website.
We recently found this short film from 2003 in which Burn does voiceover narration on. “Some Place Safe” is from director Ross Clarke and tells the story of “a divorced father discovers his ex-wife is taking their two children to live in California, he turns their last day together into a trip into the past.
Leaving London, the three of them head to Walton, Essex where they try to act like a normal family on an eerie uncomfortable day that will change all their lives.”

It’s been a long wait, and I don’t think any of us honestly expected to see The Oxford Murders get a US theatre release after almost two years since the original UK release date, but Magnolia Pictures have made it possible to see this film in cinemas in the US for the first time.
DreadCentral has the story and some lovely new posters, sadly not featuring Burn’s character, Podorov, and includes a synopsis of the movie:
“When an elderly woman is viciously murdered in Oxford, her body is discovered by two strangers whose lives are immediately changed forever: Arthur Seldom (John Hurt), a prestigious professor of logic, and Martin (Elijah Wood), a young graduate student who has just arrived at the university hoping to be Seldom’s pupil.
It quickly becomes clear that hers is the first in a series of increasingly bizarre murders, with each victim’s corpse marked by strange symbols. Professor and student join forces to try and crack the code, setting into motion an elaborate game with the killer with ever-increasing stakes. As Martin gets closer to the facts, he grows increasingly unhinged from his grasp on the world around him.
Based on Guillermo Martinez’s award-winning novel, THE OXFORD MURDERS is an edgy and intelligent thriller from cult-favorite director Álex de la Iglesia.”
The Oxford Murders sees Burn as a frustrated Russian mathematician who becomes one of the prime suspects in a slew of murders surrounding Oxford University. It also stars Elijah Wood, John Hurt, Leonor Watling, and Julie Cox.
The film is released in US cinemas on August 6th, alongside VOD, X-Box Live, Amazon, Playstation, and Vudu releases.
Extra: DreadCentral follows Burn’s name in the article with the epithet “Greatest name ever!” We certainly agree!

Lucky fan Dorothy got to meet Burn on the set of “Laid Off” yesterday and very generously allowed us to post her pic she got taken with him. On meeting Burn, she says:
“He was a lovely guy and didn’t mind getting his photo taken especially after spending all day filming in the sun in a black suit.”
ScreenDaily has a more in-depth article detailing the new indie film “Laid Off”, which is shooting in Glasgow this summer and which sees Burn take the lead role in a feature film for the first time.
“The short was very funny and the concept really caught the imagination,” says Davis. “The feature takes the concept and finds a story and an emotional arc for the central character. It’s more of a buddy film as Martin and his livewire sidekick go in search of a lost soul and at the same time he is coming to terms with the fact that he is dead and the realities of that.”
TV rights have been acquired by the BBC, but there is no news yet of a projected airdate.
As we said in April, Burn has a project filming this summer. ScreenDaily reports that Burn will head up the cast of Zam Salim’s debut feature film starting in June. He will be playing the lead character, Martin.
Laid Off is adapted from his award-winning 2006 short of the same name and expands on the blackly comic tale of a recently deceased man (Martin) coming to terms with the frustration and boredom of the afterlife.
Filming will take place in and around Glasgow for about 4 weeks starting mid-June.
